Sculpture, handloom weaving, embroidery, metalwork, knitting, ceramic, and pottery making are all part of crafts. The history of Indian art is as old as the history of civilization.  Some of the world famous and beautiful craft forms of India are: 

Patachitra- It is the art of storytelling through paintings on scrolls of cotton or silk. It is practiced by the Patua community in Bengal. 

Dhokra art- It is practiced in Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. This art has its origins in the idol of the dancing girl found at the Mohenjo-Daro site.

Jhabua Dolls- They are made by the Bhils and Bhilala tribes of Madhya Pradesh for many centuries. This stands out for the use of clothes and tan skin color.

Kinnal or Kinhala doll making: This doll making has been in practice in the Kinhala village of Karnataka since the 15th century.

Indian art and craft: Like the vast region there are vast forms of art and craft in India. Every art and every craft has its significance. Every state of India has its famous art and craft forms. Pashmina shawl of Jammu and Kashmir, Patan Patola of Gujarat, black pottery and Dholak of Uttar Pradesh, Phulkari hand embroidery of Punjab, the famous Sikki grass craft of Bihar, and the list goes on for famous and interesting art and crafts. Every year artisans are awarded with Padma awards, Sangeet Nataka Akademi, Crafts Council of Indian awards,  and other state and national awards for their contribution to the arts.

Textiles of India: The history of Indian Textile has originated from the Indus Valley Civilization where people used homespun cotton for weaving clothes. Rigveda, the oldest Veda, has information regarding textiles which refer to weaving. The great epics Ramayana and the Mahabharata depict the existence of varied forms of fabrics. There are so many famous textile crafts like the Bhujodi Shawl from Kutch, the beautiful Banarasi sarees from Varanasi, Bagh prints from Madhya Pradesh, Kalamkari from Machilipatnam and many more on the list.  The Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts is working continuously to provide global markets to Indian art and craft.

Metal Crafts: The metal crafts are as old as the Indus Valley Civilization. It started from the discovery of the Dancing girl.  There are many famous metal crafts like the Bidri ware of Andhra Pradesh, Pembharti of Telangana, Kamrupi of Assam, Dhokra practiced in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. Every craft and art is famous and significant.
